The Cheap, Fast and Easy Prompter Solution

What do you do when your talent can’t remember their lines, or the script is too long or complicated for anyone to remember? Answer: Use a prompter. What do you do when your prompter crashes to the ground and the glass breaks into hundreds of pieces, you have no back up, no time to get a replacement and the talent is showing up in 10 minutes? Answer: Download the iPrompt App from the app store.

Broken prompter, 10 minutes before talent arrived.

I had that nightmare scenario happen to me a few months back and the i-prompt app saved me. It’s a FREE teleprompting app for the iPhone, iPad and i-Touch.

Simply download it from the app store, hit the “+” button and insert your text, hit save, then hit start and you are prompting.

Screen Shot, hit the “+” to enter your text/script, you can also edit as you wish.

It has display settings for fonts, font size, color, and background color. The prompter settings include orientation, mirrored display, loop, scrolling speed, slow time, fast time. It also has auto start, delay start, and break markers.

You can order controllers for it as well. They have a hardwired remote for $99 and a wireless¬† remote for $129. I don’t have either, but I’m tempted to pick one up.

I’ve used many prompters and various prompting software and to be honest, most prompter software is junk. It’s confusing, buggy, and a total pain to use. Not the case with i-Prompt, it is the easiest prompter program I’ve ever used, I’ve never had a bug or a problem and it’s worked every time, it’s intuitive and simple, just the way I like it.

I’ve used i-Prompt for quick impromptu (pun intended) promos when the talent struggled to get the wording right. It’s also ideal for low budget productions, again it’s FREE!!!!!!!

I’ve placed it directly bellow the lens and have been happy with the results. If you want to get technical you could set up a rig and get some beam splitter glass and you’d have the exact same results as a normal prompter for thousands of dollars less.

For me, I use my normal prompter on longer projects and planned out projects in my studio, but for quick little promos, low budget shoots, when your in a pinch, or even when your on the road and don’t want to ship your prompter, the i-prompt app is a great prompter solution. It’s saved me more than once.

If you haven’t already downloaded it, do it now. Did I mention it’s FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very cool Matt. I remember when you posted pics of the prompter crash. That looked painful. Nice to have apps now a days to save your butt in a pinch.

One note on the app, there seems to be two versions with the same name, but by different companies.
One is called iPrompt Pro and the other is iPrompt. Both are free, but the one you show screen shots of appears to be the iPrompt Pro version. I downloaded it to check, because hey, who doesnt like free, and you never know when you might need something like this.

Great stuff. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Jason. Interesting, I checked on my iPad and the only app that comes up is iPrompt Pro (gold icon), but when I checked my iPhone there are two, iPrompt (blue icon) and iPrompt Pro (gold icon). I took the screen captures from my iPhone with iPrompt (blue icon). I’ve used it on my iPhone and on an iPad though and never noticed, I’ll have to check and see if there is any difference. Nice catch.

Update, they appear to be the same and from the same company, they both lead to the same website. As far as I can tell, iPrompt Pro has 3 features iPrompt doesn’t, External Display Cable, Border and Justification.
